Vesm\u00edrn\u00e1 stanice ISS testovala LED diody pro p\u011bstov\u00e1n\u00ed rostlin v r\u00e1mci z\u00e1kladn\u00edho v\u00fdzkumu u\u017e jen z toho d\u016fvodu, \u017ee na vesm\u00edrn\u00fdch stanic\u00edch a v budoucnu z\u0159ejm\u011b i na m\u011bs\u00ed\u010dn\u00edch z\u00e1kladn\u00e1ch bude nutn\u00e9 zajistit dostatek potravin a tato technologie je pro tyto \u00fa\u010dely optim\u00e1ln\u00ed. Diody toti\u017e vy\u017eaduj\u00ed k provozu velmi n\u00edzk\u00e9 nap\u011bt\u00ed, p\u0159itom jsou vysoce \u00fa\u010dinn\u00e9, zauj\u00edmaj\u00ed relativn\u011b mal\u00e9 rozm\u011bry a hmotnost, jsou odoln\u00e9 v\u016f\u010di mechanick\u00e9mu nam\u00e1h\u00e1n\u00ed a v\u00fdkyv\u016fm teplot, a nevyd\u00e1vaj\u00ed nadm\u011brn\u00e9 teplo, jako jin\u00e9 zdroje sv\u011btla. Stanice m\u00e1 ji\u017e n\u011bkolik let k dispozici testovac\u00ed p\u011bstebn\u00ed modul s n\u00e1zvem Veggie, kde jsou instalov\u00e1na sv\u011btla o vlnov\u00fdch d\u00e9lk\u00e1ch 640, 440 a 540 nanometr\u016f, s p\u0159\u00edkonem 115 W.
